Albert the Labrador Retriever, Pet Pardons Pet of the Day

Albert was returned to the shelter, the adopter backed out, never heard from. Albert is a great dog. He's in foster care right now but cannot stay. He is full of energy, loves kids, loves other dogs but cannot be homed with chickens :) He chases them, he doesn't kill them, but he chases them until he catches them. Albert is a hoot! He's fun, playful, great personality and just loves life. If you are looking for a high-energy family dog, this is your guy! He's housebroken too:). Please give him a chance and he will bring you lots of joy. He's not even a year old yet. To help with his costs, you can donate.

He is GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS and KIDS!

Save a Life and Adopt a Purebred Dog

I spoke to a client this morning and the topic turned to their recent purchase of puppies from a breeder, which was the perfect opportunity for me to bring up shelter animals. This person was not aware they could have gotten a purebred dog at a shelter or from a rescue. So for anyone who may not have been aware of that, i hope you will consider this info when getting your next dog. You can get a purebred dog at a shelter or rescue. Those dogs are either strays or given up. People do give up purebreds, and purebreds do stray from home. Ask your shelter if they will call you when they get a particular breed. Our local shelter does this; it's called a wish list. It's a great way to save a life and get a purebred at a great rate!

Helping Shelter Animals Find Forever Homes

dogs in Frederick available for adoptionI have an undying passion for helping shelter animals, particularly dogs, find forever homes. All proceeds from my two online stores—Zazzle and Cafepress—go directly to Frederick County Animal Control, Maryland (the county's only shelter), for the purpose of helping animals get needed medical assistance as well as medical and other supplies and toys. The other goal is to raise awareness for shelter pets everywhere.

Two fabulous dogs, KC and Maggie, are senior labrador retriever mixes who came in to the shelter together after their owner died. It is so heart breaking that they have been at the shelter since May! A discount is offered for adopting two dogs at once as well as for adopting dogs at least 5 years of age. There are so many rewards with rescuing a shelter dog, especially an older one. Please consider opening your heart and home to a homeless pet today.

Adopt a Chocolate Labrador Retriever

Cheyanna is a sweet loving lab ~6 yrs old, weighs 87 lbs. She knows commands, LOVES attention & people. She's been at Frederick County Animal Control (Maryland) since April. She has a sarcoma on one of her back legs that was recently checked by a vet. It may not be able to be removed but may not get worse. Anyone interested in adopting her can have a more detailed examination performed. Please help Cheyanna find a forever home! Out-of-state adopters are welcome.

Promote Shelter Dog Adoption and Raise Awareness

Show your support for saving shelter dogs and puppies while raising awareness about the importance of adopting shelter dogs. These items make special gifts for animal advocates and dog lovers, and adopters/owners of rescued dogs who've given their dogs a second chance at life with a forever home. Many shelters give dogs a deadline on their life due to funds, lack of space or their policy. Many rely on volunteers to walk and play with the dogs, which is crucial to the dog or puppy's health and happiness. Many dogs develop cage rage, causing them mental anguish from being at the shelter and they may be euthanized as a result.

Customize or Personalize the Design

Easily modify any of the items by changing colors, adding text (your shelter/rescue's name, for example), resizing the image or adding your own. The possibilities are endless!

Adopt a Black and Rust Chow Mix!

Charlie is the sweetest dog and a volunteer and staff favorite at the shelter! A black and rust-colored chow chow mix, he looks like a little lion or teddy bear. He has a big heart and loves to give kisses! Even if you do not live in the area, you can adopt him. http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/19360457

Charlie is a fluffy fellow — very soft indeed! He has such an expressive face too! He is a smart boy — he managed to make it here in one piece as a stray. He has a handsome black-with-rust-colored coat, and he weighs in at 71 compact pounds.

Charlie is a wonderful adult dog: he is calm and cheerful. His tail is shorter (perhaps it was docked?), but he wags it vigorously when he meets a friend. He is very alert and is a terrific boy.

His fee is only $72.50, which includes neutering/spaying, vaccinations, microchip/registration, vet health exam, rabies voucher, and county license.

Warning: if you visit him, you'll fall in love!

Adopt a Cocker Spaniel/Scottish Terrier Scottie Mix

Adorable Sparky, a Cocker Spaniel/Scottish Terrier Scottie Mix, was given to the Frederick County Animal Control shelter because his boy went to college and the family didn't want to be inconvenienced by him anymore. He's in wonderful physical condition, except that his hearing is mostly gone, which saved him from hearing from those he loved that he is disposable after so many years of loving devotion. Please share!
